For thousands of years people have known that sound can have a profound healing effect on the body. I am sure you have noticed that there are certain pieces of music or songs that help you to relax, feel good, or sleep. Then there are other types of music that reeve you up or excite you.
All sounds, whether they are music or just noise, are vibrations, and therefore have an effect on everything around it. In fact, there has been research conducted showing that listening to Mozart (Sonata for Two Pianos) can improve your mental function. Music played with a harp has also been shown to have a healing effect on your heart and immune system.
For thousands of years, ancient cultures around the world have used drumming and chanting to help rebalance and heal the body. The sound waves (vibration) resonate with the body’s own natural rhythms, switching genes on and off, creating harmony and balance between and within the cells. It seems the more soothing the music, the more balanced the cells.
One of the most fascinating findings of the research on sound is that this healing effect is not only with music but is also with the sound of words. A kind word spoken to another person can be music to their ears, so to speak. Words have a healing effect on the body in two ways. First, the meaning of the words, when positive, can create a cascade of beneficial healing effects. Second, on a deeper level, the vibrations of the pronunciation of the vowels and consonants also have a healing effect on the body.
I once saw a great example of this in a real time video of an ultrasound on a woman who had a three inch wide tumor in her bladder. I watched as three doctors, standing behind the woman, began chanting a sound that meant “already done” (healed). I watched as the tumor began to shrink and within in two minutes and 42 seconds the tumor had disappeared completely! Amazing!
Dr. David Hawkins has calibrated the vibration of certain music using a technique called kinesiology and found that classical music scored 500. To put this in perspective, the consciousness level of humankind is only 200.
When it comes to your health, it is vitally important that you broaden your understanding of what constitutes health. Remember, there is much more to health than diet, exercise and rest. You must understand that everything is energy, therefore always vibrating, and that everything is connected. This is why sound affects your whole being.
Start by being aware of how sound, both musical and the spoken word, affects you. It is definitely something worth thinking about.
